Pierre Gasly had a terrible race day at the Yas Marina circuit as the Frenchman could only manage 13th place in the concluding race of the year. Gasly was running in the points until a collision with Lewis Hamilton.
The 2020 Monza winner locked up into Turn 6 on the 16th lap of the race, and Hamilton collided with him. Gasly lost major components such as parts of the diffuser, which also broke as a result. Pierre Gasly blamed his 13th place on the incident with Hamilton, while the Briton accrued himself a ninth place.
I think most of the damage was done when Lewis just came at the back of my car and just destroyed the whole diffuser at the back of it.Pierre Gasly said, as reported by motorsportweek.com
One thing Gasly will be glad of is that he beat his teammate Esteban Ocon in the standings, in just his first year in the team. The former Red Bull driver also scored a podium at the Dutch GP in 2023, and another one at the sprint race in Belgium in 2023.
Pierre Gasly reveals the intricacy of scrutiny on drivers on race weekends
With the most races of all time in a single year being assigned to the 2023 calendar, Formula One has had one of the most hectic years of all time this year. This especially has occurred on high-profile circuits such as Las Vegas and Miami. Especially in Las Vegas, where some drivers complained about jetlag during a doubleheader.
Following the most expensive race on the calendar, Gasly said that the race weekends for drivers especially on weekends like Las Vegas are extremely busy and hectic. Gasly underlined how much an F1 driver is supposed to carry out in terms of responsibility.
I think that’s one thing people don’t really realize — how intense it is from the moment, the first second we enter the paddock until Sunday night when we leave.
Gasly, a race winner in F1, could help Alpine achieve only sixth in the 2023 Championship. In a year where the front of the field has been extremely competitive except for Red Bull, Alpine has come out lacking, falling to P6 after getting fourth place last year.
