Sir. Lewis Hamilton shocked the entire Formula One grid when it was announced that he would leave Mercedes in 2025 to join Ferrari despite having a multi-year deal with the German manufacturer. It was kept a secret from almost all the drivers in the garage. Now Alpine’s star driver Pierre Gasly has come forward claiming that he knew about the Hamilton-Ferrari talks for a long time.

During the launch of Alpine’s 2024 car on Tuesday, Gasly mentioned that according to his understanding negotiations over Hamilton’s Ferrari move have been bubbling for quite some time now and it wasn’t as sudden as it is perceived. He also admitted the move has certainly made the 2024 drivers marked more exciting than ever.

Ultimately, he is towards the end of his career. So it was either now or never. I think it was kept secret for quite a long time. I wish him the best. Obviously, it’s sort of exciting with the driver market, all of you guys have come with it, which is normal.

While talking about the same he admitted that it was not great news for Carlos Sainz Jr. who hasn’t yet secured a seat for 2025 and might be forced to settle for a midfield team, unlike the top teams has been driving for. He does think that Sainz is a great driver but he also understands the decision that Ferrari has made for their future.

Pierre Gasly is confused about what season 2025 holds for him

Pierre Gasly who just turned 28 on Alpine’s car launch day, is one of the drivers whose contract ends this year. While Hamiltons’ Ferrari move is opening up that Mercedes seat, the team doesn’t necessarily seem to be in a rush to decide on who takes the seat.

Gasly during the A524 launch did say that with this there was going to be a lot of movement in the drivers market. At the crazy times in F1 Gasly does not want to get distracted and focus solely on his core task of producing good results in this upcoming season.

I started with Alpine last year. I know the project I’m working on. I have the end of my contract at the end of the year and obviously, there are conversations ongoing. I think the situation is pretty clear, but at the moment I just want to see what this car is capable of. Ultimately my goal is to fight at the front. I believe it’s possible with Alpine. I’m 28, good experience, I’m in my prime and that’s what I’m working for. I want to fight for wins, for podiums and be up there.

Gasly and his teammate Ocon both run out of their contract this year. While it’s been five years since Ocon is part of the team, it has only been a year or two for Gasly in Alpine. He wants to focus on his future with the team and bring in the best results.
