Pirelli rain tyres test at Circuit Paul Ricard awaits Yuki Tsunoda & Nyck de Vries this weekend

Scuderia AlfaTauri, an Italian Formula 1 team is one of the teams that has a new driver line-up for 2023. Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries are the two drivers. De Vries replaced Pierre Gasly after his move to Alpine, a French team with 2 French drivers. This will be the first run for this duo.

This is Tsunoda’s third year in Formula 1 and de Vries’ first. The latter previously was a reserve driver for Mercedes. In 2022 he drove in the practice sessions for 4 teams making him the only driver to do so. He also went on to score points in his race debut when he substituted for Albon in Williams. The fans voted him as the “Driver of the Day”. This is his first year as a full-time Formula 1 driver.

Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries ready for their first rain tyre test

The French circuit has the proper conditions for the testing of rain tyres hence it seems appropriate to run it here. The team’s new car will not be seen in the testing, the AT03 2022 car will be driven by the drivers for the test. It is also reported that Mercedes will test their rain tyres soon.

AlphaTauri scored points in 10 races last season. They finished ninth in the championship ahead of Williams. The team scored a total of 35 points, just 2 points low of Haas who finished right before them. The upcoming season is most likely to have an unexpected turn of events as Gasly moved to Alpine and De Vries will be the one racing alongside Tsunoda. The Pirelli test and pre-season testing will help the team gather data and analyse it.

AlphaTauri have not yet launched their livery, they are all set to unveil it on 11th February in New York.  This will take place before the pre-season testing for the year 2023 in Bahrain. The test will also help the team evaluate the drivers ahead of the season, it is their first opportunity to do so in the same machinery.
