F1 pundit SLAMS Ferrari for ‘juvenile and odd’ radio communication with Charles Leclerc at Canadian GP

The Canadian GP was filled with oddities at prime. The only thing that was expected was Max Verstappen securing yet another win. To the disappointment of many, Ferrari had another disappointing weekend. Ferrari had the most suitable upgrade for Montreal coming to the race. But poor qualifying ended their hopes before the final race even began.
Charles Leclerc started the race on P11 while his teammate Carlos Sanz started at P8. They went on to finish the race P4 and P5, respectively, with the help of their solid upgrades. But amidst all the positivity, a radio conversation between Leclerc and his engineer got the spotlight. The team assured the driver that Sainz wouldn’t attack and asked him to race nicely and cleanly.
This prompted discussion in the F1 community over internal politics in Ferrari. F1 pundit and former Ferrari team manager Peter Windsor has weighed in on the matter. Windsor was left in shock, and he couldn’t believe his ears that Ferrari would talk this to its driver. Assuring the driver that his teammate will not race him or challenge him to overtake is not what the racing meant to its founder Enzo Ferrari
“Don’t worry, Carlos is not racing you; he’s not going to challenge you’ – as if a guy of Leclerc’s stature needs to be told that…It’s a bit juvenile, I thought; I just couldn’t believe that they were talking to him like that,” Windsor said via his YouTube Channel.
Peter Windsor was impressed by Ferrari’s strategy
Windsor expressed his happiness in the Ferrari Strategy on Sunday as the duo started on P9 & P10 and made it to P4 and P5 by not coming into the pitlane under the safety car. Ferrari’s 2022 Title campaign met a disappointing end due to poor strategy, so the team getting it right in 2023 is a positive sign
“Full marks – today – for their strategy…They did a good job because they didn’t come in at the first Safety Car when everybody else did and went from medium to hard. They stayed out there to get track position because they were ninth and 10th on the grid, and they used that really, really well,” Windsor said.
Peter Windsor stated that it would have been a close call with Verstappen on Sunday if Leclerc had qualified with his full pace instead of p11. On Saturday, Leclerc was on the same pace as Max Verstappen and would have qualified a close P2 where he would have given a good fight to Fernando Alonso and might have clinched the podium for the team.
