As the Formula 1 circus gears up for a return to Qatar GP‘s Lusail International Circuit, anticipation is rife for a weekend that promises speed and a spectacle. This desert jewel, after a hiatus in 2022 for the FIFA World Cup, has undergone a metamorphosis, emerging as a motorsport haven with a decade-long commitment from Formula 1.

Lusail made its debut on the Formula 1 circuit in 2021, with Lewis Hamilton winning the race last time around and Max Verstappen trailing him in second. This year, the circuit underwent an extensive shutdown to undergo crucial renovations, preserving the fundamental layout while addressing the challenges that earned it a reputation as one of the most demanding tracks in 2021.

Braunwarth proudly praises Lusail Circuit, stating that Lusail has been improving steadily as a venue for car and bike racing. Therefore, it was important for the circuit to have excellent safety fencing. Further, he also added that they’ve demonstrated their commitment to safety by installing new safety fences that stretch for over 2.5 kilometers, meeting the strict safety standards set by the FIA.

Beyond Formula 1, Lusail’s versatility shines. Once a playground for MotoGP, it now sets the stage for a mid-November showdown. But that’s not all; Lusail is gearing up to host the World Endurance Championship in 2024, solidifying its position as a multifaceted gem in the motorsport realm. A circuit capable of hosting the crème de la crème — Formula 1, MotoGP, and the endurance challenges of WEC.
