Aston Martin had a staggering start to the 2023 season. The AMR23 juiced out every millisecond of performance and was almost on par with the dominant RB19 on certain occasions. Many fans and pundits also claimed that the two cars had a stark resemblance. But due to mid-season tweaks to the car, the British team seemed to lose their winning pace and is facing a major performance slump.
The AMR23’s development had involved multiple ex-Red Bull car designers. Due to this, the car had multiple similarities to the RB19. Ralf Schumacher has showered his thoughts over this progression of Aston Martin. The six-time grand prix winner questioned if Dan Fallows [Ex head of Aerodynamics at Red Bull] had forgotten his ‘Red Bull know-how’ and reached his limit. The German displayed his hopes for Aston Martin to find their form again.
I hope they find their form again. After Mexico we certainly know more, But what if the former Red Bull man Fallows was able to bring a lot of Red Bull’s know-how to the car this year and now his cornucopia is simply empty because he no longer knew of the further developments of his former team?
Ralf Schumacher told f1-insider.com
The German added that there could be multiple reasons for the downfall of Aston Martin. But, he did not rule out the possibility of Fallows forgetting his development days at Red Bull. Schumacher claimed that the Silverstone-based team might be clueless regarding the next steps in car development.
In any case, that could also be a reason for the stagnation in performance.
Dr. Helmut Marko also commented on Aston Martin’s recent slump
The Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko was very vocal about the issues that Aston Martin has faced late-season. He claimed that the team took a direction that was simply wrong. Marko recalled Mercedes’ disastrous start to the season, where the team could not bring in better results and added that the teams would be in for a rude awakening if they were unaware of their direction with the team.
Marko talked about the resemblance of the RB19 and AMR23 and claimed that the two cars were very similar. Moreover, the 80-year-old also commented on the change in employment of the Red Bulls and said that along with Fallows, multiple people were changed in Red Bull’s development team.
Fernando Alonso has recently been facing difficulties in juicing out the best pace from his car. The Spaniard has only one top-three result in the past ten races. And even Lance Stroll was shunted out of Q3 in qualifying sessions. The fans and the Aston Martin crew are still hopeful of better results in the remaining three races, and the team is looking forward to the next season.
