Formula 1 is always looking for ways to entertain the fans. The sport has been growing popular over the years. These days, everyne wants to attend a Grand Prix. The sport is aware of this. They aim to give the fans quality entertainmentent. Formula 1 introduced a new sprint race format for the 2023 season. This is only an experiment. However, Max Verstappen does not like the idea of the new format.

Martin Brundle, Sky Sports pundit, agreed with Verstappen. He is not in favour of the sprint format. The experiments involve separate qualifying sessions. One for the sprint race and one for the race on Sunday. Therefore, two qualifying sessions and two races. This reduces the practice session from three to one. Max Verstappen mentioned he would not be around for too long if F1 introduced more sprint races. He admitted that he is not a fan of the new changes.

Martin Brundle responded to Verstappen’s comments. He told Sky Sports, “I would be surprised, but if he doesn’t want to drive it, there are a million other people who would want to drive that Red Bull. I think what he is trying to say is ‘Don’t mess around too much’. I get his point on that, but I don’t really see why that would make him stop.”

Brundle has taken his stance on the change. Like Verstappen, he does not understand why they are messing around with the sprint concept. He revealed that he liked the current format. “The whole purpose of the Sprint race, and it has worked on a number of occasions already, was to maybe just spice up the actual race day grid a little bit.”

Max Verstappen is not the one to shy away from giving his opinions. The Red Bull driver does not think it is in the DNA of the sport to do these kinds of spring races. He explained how the weekend becomes intense as the drivers already do a lot of races. The two-time world champion prefers to reduce the weekend instead, only racing on Saturday and Sunday.

The drivers had their personal opinions. Lewis Hamilton, for example, stated it was cool that Formula 1 was experimenting with new formats. But, he wanted the sport to find alternatives for tracks like Monaco. Mercedes driver George Russell is also open to trying out new things. AlphaTauri’s Nyck de Vries is cool with one practice session as he is used to it in the junior series. While the drivers have given their opinions, Formula 1 will decide what to do.
