Massive news has come in from the house of Red Bull as they have confirmed they are retaining Adrian Newey. The terms of the contract that the Milton-Keynes-based team had in place with the legendary F1 car designer were coming to an end this year. This led to several theories about whether Newey was going to stay back at the team reigning at the top of the Championship Standings right now, or if he will shift to another squad with a new challenge.

Right after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Red Bull Boss Christian Horner chose to reveal the news that Adrian Newey would be a part of their team for the next few years. While there has not been an official announcement of any sort, Horner has gladly talked about the British mastermind agreeing to the deal that Red Bull had given to him.

Adrian Newey had joined Red Bull back in 2006, and his cars have proven to be a massive success for the team. He is regarded as one of the most successful F1 car designers as his designs have led to three teams winning a collective number of 196 Grands Prix till date. For Red Bull, Newey’s car helped them achieve back-to-back Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championship titles from 2010 to 2013, and in 2022. In 2021, it was his car that led to Max Verstappen winning his debut World Drivers’ Championship title as well.

Owing to the legendary car designer’s several accolades and wild success, it is no surprise that several rival teams were eyeing to hire Newey post his contract termination with Red Bull. But Christian Horner said, “Adrian has been such a fundamental part since almost the beginning. He covers a lot of areas.”

In the next few years, Red Bull will debut their own engine manufactured in-house at the Red Bull Powertrains. Retaining Newey has given the team an advantage there as well. Horner commented, “He’s just as motivated as he always been. Obviously, he has a great interest in what’s going on in Powertrains, and Red Bull Advanced Technology as well. So, he covers the three pillars of the campus in Milton Keynes.”

Christian Horner has said that Adrian Newey will work in collaboration with other executives in the team and the main position-holders F1 technical director Pierre Wache and Red Bull Powertrains Ben Hodgkinson. It is to be seen how this formidable collaboration plays to the team’s strengths so that they can stick to their top position for the next few years.
