In a surprising move, Red Bull Racing has secured the services of Ferrari engineer Angelo Rossetti, outmanoeuvring Mercedes in the process. Rossetti, despite earlier rumours linking him to Mercedes, ultimately chose Red Bull’s tempting offer. His expertise in the latest generation of Ferrari engines will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the team.
According to Motorsports.com, Red Bull Racing successfully secured the services of Angelo Rossetti, a highly skilled engineer from Ferrari. He was set to be joining Mercedes but switched to the Milton Keynes outfit. Rossetti specializes in fluid dynamics and combustion, with almost twelve years of experience at Ferrari. His expertise lies in the latest generation of Ferrari engines, making him a valuable addition to Red Bull’s technical team. Rossetti’s knowledge will be instrumental in facing the challenges posed by the new engine rules and maximizing the performance of Red Bull’s power unit.
Mercedes made a significant addition by hiring Emanuele Guidotti, a seasoned engineer from Ferrari. Guidotti is a specialist in turbo and simulation, boasting nearly nine years of experience at Maranello. His knowledge in these areas will greatly aid to Mercedes’ development of the 2026 power units. With his knowledge and insights, Guidotti will aid the team led by Toto Wolff in optimizing the performance and efficiency of their engines for the upcoming regulations.
Ferrari engines continue to be the most powerful, attracting rival teams for the brains behind them
Although the team have picked up momentum recently, Ferrari still finds themselves suffering in fourth place, trailing Mercedes and Aston Martin, and significantly behind the dominant Red Bull. Last year’s rival Charles Leclerc is currently nearly 157 behind Max Verstappen. However, it’s worth noting that Ferrari currently have the most potent engine in Formula 1, despite their recent struggles with reliability.
With Ferrari’s engine being the envy of the paddock, it’s no surprise that rival teams have come knocking on their door, seeking the masterminds behind this engineering marvel. While Mercedes and other teams opted for a twin-turbo engine design, Ferrari took a different path by embracing a compressed combustion engine, showcasing their inclination towards conventional yet innovative ways.
This unique design choice has allowed Ferrari to extract maximum power output from their engine. However, it has also play a part in their reliability woes, with occasional hiccups in performance. Nonetheless, the allure of Ferrari’s technical prowess has not gone unnoticed, as teams recognize the potential it holds.
Both Rossetti and Guidotti have already completed their gardening leave periods and are now officially part of their new teams. The new engine rules for 2026 entail a shift towards a 50% power split between the 6-cylinder internal combustion engine and the electric hybrid system. These regulations present challenges for teams in terms of design and energy distribution.
