As a part of the Liberty Media’s new vision for the Formula 1 Championship, there seems to be quite a number of new circuits in consideration for holding Grands Prix in the upcoming years. While next year’s calendar is all-set to have the highest number of races in a single season in F1 history, the fans were still dejected to find that the proposed South African Grand Prix failed to make the cut despite rumors of the Kyalami International Circuit being in the running for holding an F1 race.

Now, it seems the South African Grand Prix is not the only venue that F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is currently considering for an entry into the calendars for the future seasons. As per the recent reports, the paddocks might have to visit South America twice a year as the “Caribbean Grand Prix” is being planned in Colombia.

The only race being held in South America, currently, is the Brazilian GP. This could all change in the next few years as Stefano Domenicali reportedly jetted off to Ernesto Cortissoz Airport in Barranquilla, Colombia on October 31, alongwith Luís Garcia Abad, manager of the Mexican GP, and the promoters of the race in Mexico.

Right after the Mexican Grand Prix ended and the paddocks got into preparation for a move to South America for the Brazil GP, Stefano Domenicali flew to Colombia to proceed talks with the concerned authorities there for the proposed Caribbean Grand Prix, according to the reports of a local news outlet.

Speaking of the progress that has been made regarding the Carribbean GP, Barranquilla Mayor Jaime Pumarejo said, “The process is advancing favorably, but there is still a lot of material to be cut. We are still there, that is, it is a real, palpable possibility. It is not yet a reality, but we are in the race and we hope to reach the finish line.

If the deal goes through, the Carribbean Grand Prix will boost the economy of the country of Colombia manifolds since Mayor Pumarejo confirmed the race would invite approximately 120 thousand spectators per day. That being said, the costs of hosting such a grand event is also going to be a burden for the country’s exchequer. Thus, it seems the meetings are on for the a second race in South America, but as of now, nothing is finalized yet.
