Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have bought stock in the Alpine F1 team, which is owned by the Renault Group putting a $900 million value on the Renault-backed organization as it looks for additional championship victories. Reynolds, McElhenney, and Jordan’s investment in Alpine and their role in trying to change Alpine’s fortunes is a plot that is ripe for dramatization and will undoubtedly appeal to the expanding US market. Ryan Reynolds has received the support of Alpine’s team principal to attend this Sunday’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Reynolds and fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney teamed up with Red Bird Capital and Otro Capital to invest $200 million (£157.3 million) in Alpine to acquire a 24 percent share in the company. Eddie Jordan, a former F1 team owner, has called the investment “ridiculous” and “preposterous,” but Otmar Szafnauer, Alpine’s team principal, has welcomed the money. In 2023, Szafnauer’s team have only managed to get a third place once, with Esteban Ocon doing so in the Monaco Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly is the other driver driving for the team.

With their investment in Wrexham, Reynolds and McElhenney had already experienced a stunning success story. The ailing North Wales team, which was then playing in the National League, the fifth tier of English football, was bought by the pair in 2021.

Prior to last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, Sky Sports questioned Szafnauer about the possibility of Reynolds visiting Alpine’s pit area. He responded, as reported by GP supporters, “That’s a good question. We’ll go with Silverstone. I’ll guess another race if I’m wrong.” Alpine didn’t fare very well in the Austrian Grand Prix. At the Red Bull Ring, Gasly placed 10th, while Ocon came in fourth. Szafnauer expects that the funding provided by Reynolds and his business partners would advance Alpine.

Every year, the British Grand Prix, held at the historical Silverstone circuit, sees a host of celebrity guests visit the F1 paddock during the race weekend. The longest-running F1 Grand Prix is set to see a battle between the greats in a week’s time as Ryan Reynolds is expected to be there, cheering for his newly acquired team Alpine.
