“Huge admiration for rally drivers,” Sebastian Vettel addresses WRC rumors ahead of first post-F1 race
There has been speculation about Vettel moving to rallying since he retired from Formula 1, the German addressed these rumours.
Sebastian Vettel, the former Formula 1 driver is a four-time consecutive world champion. He is one of the most successful drivers the sport has ever seen. Ever since his retirement, there has been a buzz about his desire to attempt rallying. The WRC is a World Rally Championship governed by the FIA. In the discipline of rallying, it is one of the highest levels of competition in motorsport.
When asked about rallying earlier, Vettel responded with “we’ll see” prior to his first outing after Formula 1 retirement. There has been speculation about Vettel moving to rallying ever since his announcement. He addressed this at a press conference ahead of ROC ( Race of Champions).
Vettel was quizzed on the rumours of his participation in rallying, he champ addressed them saying “I have a huge admiration for rally drivers, I think it’s an incredible skill. This is a tiny glimpse of what it might feel like to do a rally, but it feels like I arrive with a screwdriver and a hammer – two tools – whereas they arrive with the whole toolbox. Whatever might happen, they have the right-fitting tool”.
“It’s a great sport. There’s the racing element and the skill, but it’s different in many ways. I think the drivers are great and I don’t think they get the limelight they deserve. Rally is popular in the Nordic countries but deserves to be very popular around the world because the skill is incredible”.
“The discipline as well – it’s very different as a sport. So, I don’t know. I think it would be a lot of work, but maybe something that, after a while, if it starts to itch… It would be very different, a huge challenge”.
