The retiring Sebastian Vettel had to be ‘kicked out of the office’ by Aston Martin to stop him studying data late-night

Sebastian Vettel’s Formula 1 career is at an end (for now, anyways) – and there are just two races left. But this doesn’t mean the German has been taking it easy, quite the contrary, he is still keeping to his work ethic. There’s still something to play for in the championship as well, as the team are only 4 points behind Alfa Romeo in P6 of the Constructor’s championship.
Aston Martin, and particularly Vettel’s fortunes also seem to have taken an upturn since the summer break. Since Hungary (just before the break), he has scored points in 5 out of the 8 races. As per GPFans, his team principal, Mike Krack agrees with the suggestion that Vettel has been at his best lately.
Krack thinks that the four-time world champion has benefitted from the improved performance of the AMR22, and the better results that have come with that: “Probably yes. I think he gained from the better performance [of the car] or the better results. It added a little bit more to his motivation.” For a time, he had even lead the US GP, and would have likely finished much higher than his P8 finish if not for a bad pitstop.
Mike Krack makes it clear Sebastian Vettel is not ‘taking it easy’
Sebastian Vettel has always been known to have a brilliant work ethic – he’s a very hard worker, and Christian Horner had dubbed his work ethic ‘Germanic’. Mike Krack gave a more recent example of his work ethic, where Vettel had to be ‘kicked out’ of the office in last weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix.
Krack said: “And it’s really nice to see him work. I think we had to kick him out of the office [on Friday night in Mexico], otherwise, he would have still been there, studying data, looking at where you can change things. So he’s not on a farewell, this I can tell you for sure. He really wants to do well. He wants to bring us forward and bring his part to finish the season in the best possible place.”
It is quite understandable that Vettel would like to finish the season, and by extension, his career, in the best possible place. A win, or even a podium is quite out of reach for him and the team, but that does not mean that he cannot have a good race for himself. Fans will just be hoping that it doesn’t end like Kimi Raikkonen’s own final race did last year.
