Dutch sensation Max Verstappen continued his remarkable streak of victories, again triumphing at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The 25-year-old driver achieved his fifth consecutive win, solidifying his impressive tally of seven wins out of nine races. Ever since clinching his first world championship in 2021, the Dutchman has been setting new records. Now, he surpasses the iconic F1 legend Ayrton Senna with yet another achievement as a two-time world champion.

Equaling him in Montreal, the reigning world champion at Austria now dethrones the stupendous Ayrton Senna, claiming a fifth position in the list of drivers with the most wins in F1 history.. With this achievement, he is now only nine wins away from reaching fourth place, currently held by Alain Prost. Undoubtedly, this is a momentous milestone for Max, as he surpasses one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history at just the age of 25.

Ayrton Senna’s untimely passing following the tragic incident at San Marino in 1994 left many believing that he had much more to contribute and accomplish in Formula 1. Nevertheless, Max Verstappen can take immense pride in his latest achievement, as he continues to dominate the competition this season, leaving his opponents in the dust.

The Dutchman has been in astonishing form since 2021. He has secured half of his 42 career wins in just the last 14 months. This puts into context just how dominant he has been throughout the last two seasons. Taking the top step was simple for him yet again in Austria. His advantage was so immense he even pitted just before the penultimate lap to secure the fastest lap point.

His hunger for every point also pinpoints why he has been this good over the last two years. Fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on Senna breaking the record, with many reckoning he could jump as high as third in the list by the time the season is out. However, many still attribute his strong showings to his immense RB19 and lack of a competitive teammate, while some assert he won’t beat Lewis Hamilton‘s current record. Max Verstappen’s already substantial lead at the top grows even further to a staggering 81 points after nine rounds of the 2023 season. He already has one hand on the title, as the prospect of a hattrick of World Drivers’ Championships is imminent. Should Verstappen win 12 out of the remaining 13 races this year, he could jump as high as third in the standings.
