Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen have been teammates at Red Bull since 2021 and have, over the years, witnessed their partnership go through waves of ups and downs. There have been quite a few heated moments and memories that the duo and the whole Red Bull team would cherish for the rest of their lives. While 2023 has proved to be an extremely difficult year for Perez, he has still taken the time to talk about what he admires the most about Verstappen.

Since the dawn of the new F1 regulations last year, Max Verstappen has gone from strength to strength. None of his rivals have been able to stand up against him, and this is one of the main reasons why he’s the reigning F1 World Champion. Sergio Perez, being in close quarters of Verstappen for most of the season, acknowledges his racing skills and has recently showered praise on him.

While shedding light on what makes Verstappen a different breed at the pinnacle of motor racing, Perez told De Limburger, “[Max] can adapt very quickly. I have a little more trouble with that. As a result, he managed to get more out of the car and also to do it every weekend. That’s something I admire about him. Max always performs 100 percent at the peak of his abilities.”

I think that’s the most special thing about him. In addition, he is a hard worker who understands very well why he is successful. If it’s a bad thing, then he immediately knows why that is.” The Mexican driver has pinpointed Max Verstappen’s adaptability skills as one of the main factors behind his continuous rise in Formula 1.

While Sergio Perez has not shied away from applauding Max Verstappen for his exceptional skills in F1, on a personal note, the latter has found it extremely difficult to hang with his teammate this year. Verstappen has been on an incredibly dominant run, and Perez has been unable to live to the standards that the Dutchman has set in his RB19.

As things stand, the ongoing campaign has six races remaining on the calendar, and Perez has only managed 223 points in the season so far. The Dutchman, on the other hand, has amassed a brilliant 400 with 13 wins and 15 podium finishes. The huge gap between the two Red Bull drivers indicates how much Perez has struggled.

However, despite the torrid time that Sergio Perez has had behind the wheel of the RB19, he can turn his fortunes around if he can go on a consistent run of form from next month’s Qatar Grand Prix onwards. Perez has got it in him to bounce back strongly, and the next six races will hold immense significance for him.
