Sergio Perez aims to win the F1 world title in 2023. The Mexican driver had played second fiddle to Max Verstappen since joining Red Bull in 2021. But now the 33-year-old wants to fight the Dutchman on equal terms. So far, Checo has won two out of the first five rounds of the 2023 season. F1 journalist Peter Windsor reveals what Perez needs to do to win the Monaco GP.

The 71-year-old claims that the Mexican driver has an edge over quite a few corners around the iconic Monte Carlo street circuit. Checo is usually on top of his game at turns such as the Sainte Devote and Casino Square. Sergio Perez also has the exits of Mirabeau and Portier under his belt. Additionally, Peter reckons that the 33-year-old has the upper hand at the famous Nouvelle Chicane and the last corner at Anthony Noghes.

Subsequently, Windsor is convinced that Checo can take the fight up easily at seven corners of the track. The F1 journalist insists that the Mexican driver only needs a few more turns to outperform Verstappen. He said, “There are only about four corners he hasn’t got.” Sergio will have to match the two-time champion on those corners and use tire management to his advantage.

Sergio Perez started from the second row at the 2022 Monaco GP in wet conditions. The Mexican driver soon pitted for intermediate tires and then overcut the leading Ferrari cars for slicks. This allowed Checo to gain the lead in the race. Perez came home to win the Monaco GP, followed by Carlos Sainz and Verstappen rounding up the podium.

The 33-year-old will be looking to win the streets of Monte Carlo. Red Bull is the favorite heading into the race, as Max and Sergio have dominated all five rounds so far. Although Checo still faces the uphill task of outperforming the two-time world champion in the coming race weekend. For now, Perez is 14 points behind the Dutchman.

Thus, Peter Windsor insists that Sergio Perez is on the right track to win the Monaco GP. The 33-year-old is fond of street circuits as he has won several races on such tracks, including this year’s Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabian GPs. Subsequently, this is the perfect opportunity for the Mexican driver to reduce his points deficit to Max Verstappen.
