Sergio Perez‘s current contract with Red Bull Racing expires at the end of the 2024 F1 season. Rumors have emerged recently that the Milton Keynes-based team is already considering options to replace their Mexican driver. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo are expected to be in the running. However, Perez insists that he is not thinking about his long-term future for now.

The Mexican driver was asked if the upcoming 2026 Power unit regulations will influence his decision. Red Bull will race with its own Power units in collaboration with Ford in 2026. Although uncertainty remains regarding the pecking order. Sergio Perez reckoned that amidst such speculation all drivers would be aiming to get the best contracts available.

Talking to the media, ahead of Japanese GP, Perez said, “We’re obviously keeping an eye to see but it’s all so hard to predict what’s going to happen. I think we’re all trying to get the best possible next contract we possibly can, where we think we’re going to be most competitive.”

Checo made it clear that he is not thinking about his future at this moment. The 33-year-old is happy to continue his duties at Red Bull till at least the end of 2024. As such, Perez is not going to sign a new contract in haste. He said, “But I think in my case, I’ve got another year of contract so I have no rush in that regard.”

Can Sergio Perez save his Red Bull seat?

Sergio Perez aimed to challenge teammate Max Verstappen for the world title this year. Unfortunately, the 33-year-old has failed to match the reigning world champion with Checo trailing Verstappen by a gap of a staggering 151 points. This has raised concerns at Red Bull as the Milton Keynes-based team wants a driver capable of fighting at the front.

Perez must try and make the most out of the remaining races in 2023. However, this might be more difficult after Red Bull’s disastrous weekend in Singapore as rivals try to catch up with the Austrian team. However, Sergio Perez will need to step up his performance and perhaps clinch his first win of the season since the Azerbaijan GP.

The Japanese GP weekend might allow the Mexican driver to bounce back after scoring just four points in Singapore. Although, it remains to be seen if Checo can close the gap with Max Verstappen.
