The 2023 Italian GP did not deliver as expected, but it had its few bright moments. One was seeing Sergio Perez’s charge from P5 to end his race behind Max Verstappen in the second position. It was a hard-fought battle between Perez and the Ferrari drivers, and the Mexican was just able to get the better of both of them.

Sergio Perez did not have the smoothest of qualifying sessions, but during yesterday’s main race, he was on it from the very beginning in terms of putting the RB19 through the absolute wringer. Had he not managed to do that, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz would have been on the podium.

After his terrific outing at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza Circuit, Perez was on cloud nine, and while talking about his race, he said (H&T: Formula1.com), “I feel like my form is fully back and I hope we can have a very strong end to the season. The team has done a lot of work on the suspension and the set-up of the car and we have made great steps forward here.”

The atmosphere here in Italy and on the podium was amazing: the whole main straight was packed and it was a great experience. Max’s achievement today really is incredible so well done to him: today is his moment.” The 34-year-old has made it clear that his mojo is back heading into the rest of the season.

While Sergio Perez is raring to go for the rest of the 2023 F1 season, it will be extremely important for him to finish second in the Drivers Championship. Finishing any lower than that would be considered a failure by Red Bull and the rest of the Formula 1 paddock, considering the might of the RB19.

The Milton-Keynes-based team is well known for being ruthless with its drivers, and in case Perez cannot deliver as per expectations, he could be shown the exit door ahead of next year despite having a contract that runs until the end of 2024. The Mexican’s F1 future depends on the remaining races of 2023.

However, as things stand, he has a firm grip over second place with 219 points to his name. His nearest rival, Fernando Alonso, has only managed 170 in the same number of F1 outings. The remaining eight races of the ongoing campaign hold immense significance for Mexico’s only hope in F1.
