Sergio Perez has struggled throughout the 2023 F1 season. The 33-year-old has continued to underperform despite having the fastest car on the grid. The United States GP was no different, with Checo only managing a top 4 finish after the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton. However, Perez insists that he will bounce back at his home race in Mexico City.
The Mexican driver believed that the team was able to make progress at COTA last weekend. However, Perez pointed out that Red Bull failed to extract the maximum pace out of its car in Austin. The 33-year-old was optimistic of his chances at the next round in Mexico.
We believe that we left a lot of [untapped] performance in it. So hopefully we are able to prove that come Mexico next weekend.
Sergio Perez told Racefans.net
Sergio Perez revealed that the Milton Keynes-based team was dumbfounded at the US GP. The Austrian team did not get the same results as expected from its simulator running. This ended up putting Checo and Red Bull on the backfoot for the entire weekend.
We were so lost. I think we were having some difficulties with our preparation on the simulator to what we were experiencing on track.
Sergio Perez claims Red Bull to be even stronger in Mexico
Despite having issues with the on-track data at COTA, Max Verstappen managed to take the Sprint and GP victories in Austin. The three-time world champion started the Sunday race from P6 after his pole lap time was deleted in Q3. Nevertheless, the Dutch driver outperformed his rivals and took yet another win this season.
However, Sergio Perez believes Red Bull has a lot more pace in the RB-19. The 33-year-old highlighted that the Austrian team would be looking to get its set-up right in Mexico City and maximize the car’s performance.
I think we didn’t get to show our full pace this weekend, so I really believe that we should be a lot stronger [in Mexico] than what we were today.
We wanted more; we had pace but lacked consistency. We’ve identified our mistakes and are optimistic for the upcoming races.

While Max Verstappen has remained the fastest driver on the grid this year, Sergio Perez has failed to match his teammate. The Mexican driver is rumored to risk losing his Red Bull seat if he continues to underdeliver. As such, Perez is in dire need to step up his performance and achieve a good result at his home risk this weekend.
