The 2024 F1 season has officially got underway with the ongoing Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. Yesterday’s qualifying event proved special for quite a few drivers but when it came to Red Bulls’ Sergio Perez, he felt a bit was left on the table.
Sergio Perez is starting the upcoming Bahrain Grand Prix from fifth place on the grid after a disappointing qualifying performance. After making it into Q3, he messed up his fast lap run and that proved only good enough for a starting place on the third row.
While shedding light on the same during the post-qualifying interview, he said, as reported by racingnews365:
It’s been a positive day for the team. From my side, I messed up Turn 1, lost a tenth and a bit and that was enough to take [away] probably P2 or P3. It was also a shame that we lost the second set [of Softs] in Q2 without a need. We ended up aborting [the lap], it was already a scrubbed tire. But anyway, there are plenty of things to look forward to tomorrow.
The Mexican driver laments certain key moments during qualifying that did not allow him to get the best out of the RB20. Moreover, he feels he committed an error during Q3 that pushed him down to fifth place which could have been a starting place on the front or the second row.
Sergio Perez will be eyeing a podium finish at the least in Bahrain
While Sergio Perez has let his frustration out after a fifth-place starting position for the Bahrain GP, all he can do is try and perform as well as possible during the 57-lap Bahrain Grand Prix. Fifth place is a decent starting position and on the back of the RB20, Perez could make up places during the race.
The Milton-Keynes-based team’s RB19 operated on a whole new level when it came to race trim and the same kind of might is expected of the RB20. However, despite this, the Mexican driver could face some serious competition from the lights of Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Carlos Sainz.
Everything is very tight out there. Top 5 and a long race ahead, let’s go for a great start.

All of them are exceptional when it comes to racecraft and considering this, Sergio Perez could be in for a tough outing. Red Bull will expect him to land a podium finish at the Bahrain International Circuit and several eyes will most definitely be on his exploits behind the wheel of the RB20. His teammate, Max Verstappen, is starting the race from the pole position.
