Sergio Perez’s first race-winning car “ RP20” to be auctioned

Racing Point, a former Formula 1 team made their debut in 2019. The drivers for the 2020 season were Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll. Perez had his maiden win at the Sakhir Grand Prix in 2020. For the 2021 season, the team rebranded to Aston Martin and Perez was replaced by the recently-retired Sebastian Vettel, four-time world champion.
F1 Authentics, the famous internet auction house is all set to auction a replica of RP20 BWT, the same car in which Sergio Perez had his first Formula 1 victory, at the Bahrain International Circuit. The team Racing Point had their double podium as Lance Stroll finished third in the Grand Prix. Perez had two podium finishes with this car.
This is a special car for all the right and wrong reasons, the right being Checo’s first win and Racing Point’s double podium and the latter because of the trolls that said they copied Mercedes. The internet called the car “Pink Mercedes” and “Tracing Point” due to the resemblance with the championship-winning Mercedes car, W10.
The auction will take place online and the starting bid is £80 thousand. An interesting fact is that there are only 4 RP20s in the world which makes it all the more special. It is important to know that this car is the official one but it is not functional. It is for display, photoshoots, film shoots and other commercial aspects.

Knowing that it is one of the four cars available, it is said to catch the eyes of bidders and race car fanatics. It has authentic parts from a real race car and is made from the same mold as RP20 driven by Perez. This is a unique vehicle and the car got the team their last win. As mentioned earlier the team was rebranded to Aston Martin with Lawrence Stroll as its owner.
Starting at P5 following the qualifying, Perez had to endure an early spin to pick up the pace later. Following a dramatic turn of events – involvement of a virtual safety car, full safety car, Mercedes pit stop errors, and whatnot, Perez was able to take the lead with only George Russell hot on his heels. The Mexican held on to earn the first race of his 190-race career (then).
Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula 1 team has a new line-up for the 2023 season. It’s Lance Stroll, Lawerence Stroll’s son and a former world champion Fernando Alonso who will replace Sebastian Vettel. Alonso has 2 championships under his belt. To quote Lance Stroll, “it will be interesting to have Alonso as a teammate”.
