Sergio Perez finished P3 at the Mexican Grand Prix

Sergio Perez crossed the chequered flag at the Mexican Grand Prix in P3. The Mexican driver thanked his home fans while expressing his displeasure in not getting a better result. At the start, Perez was able to overtake George Russell as the two made contact. Post the overtake, The Mexican spent most of the race chasing Lewis Hamilton for P2.

With a switch to the medium tyres at his first and only pitstop of the race, Sergio Perez seemed to have the potential to get ahead of the Mercedes which was on the hard compound tyres in the latter half of the Grand Prix. Despite all efforts, however, Checo was forced to stay content with a top-three finish.

Perez referred to his failure of getting P2 in the race saying, “It feels good to be on the podium but I wanted more today, I am a little bit disappointed. We could have finished second definitely but we had a poor pitstop, which really prevented us doing the undercut and being closer to Lewis” The Red Bull also discussed the difficulty in following cars and overtaking at this track, as the Mexican driver tried his level best to get past Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes but failed to do so.

Sergio Perez sends love to his passionate home fans out here in Mexico

Checo expressed his gratitude to his fans at the Mexican Grand Prix who have spent every single lap cheering for their local driver. The 32-year-old said, “You are the best fans in the world. Thanks for the support these days, they are amazing.” During Lewis Hamilton’s post race interview, Sergio Perez in a show of sportsmanship, signaled to the fans to stop booing the British driver.

Sergio also spoke about his disappointment in not winning the grand prix in front of his home crowd. Although the Mexican was happy for the team as Max Verstappen won the race, breaking the all time record for most F1 wins in a season with 14 victories.

The Mexican driver spoke about the team’s prior strategy of a two-stop race which was converted into a one-stop after noticing lesser degradation than anticipated while also discussing the Mercedes team’s struggle on the hard tyres, He said, “The hard tyre didn’t work for him initially but once he got them going it just didn’t work for me, then I was looking after my tyres and there was no more in them. We were planning to do a two-stop race but degradation was better than expected.”

As the season progresses to it’s last two rounds the Mexican made his intentions of winning the races clear, he said “I just want to go and win the next two races now, we have had the pace in the last few races, so now I just want to put it all together, cut out the small problems and then I believe we can do that.”

Sergio Perez’s third place finish gives keeps him third on the standings with 265 points, only two points behind Charles Leclerc who stands at 267. Red Bull’s double podium puts the team’s total at 696 points.
