Lewis Hamilton has been the pillar of solidity at Mercedes and since joining the Brackley-based team in 2013 his career has gone from strength to strength. The Brit is the most successful driver in the history of Formula One and so far in his career which spans over 15 years, has received many accolades not only from Formula One but also from the sports fraternity in general.
with the help of this piece, we are going to try and make an attempt at whether Lewis Hamilton should retire from F1 after the expiry of his current deal with Mercedes.
Hamilton has to date entered a whopping 297 Grand Prix and from those has been able to win a mammoth 103 races. The Brit has broken many records in his career and if there is one record that he desperately wants to make his own, it is the number of Drivers Championships.
Hamilton is currently locked in at 7 titles each with Micheal Schumacher and this is probably the last accolade that the Brit has on his bucket list before he decides to call it quits.
Last year during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Brit came extremely close to achieving his goal but it just wasn’t to be for the 7-time World Champion.
Lewis Hamilton is 37 years old and has not got many years left in F1
Lewis Hamilton has been in Formula One since 2007 and from then onwards has watched how the sport has evolved over the years. The demands of the sport today are at an all-time high and given that Hamilton is 37, it is certainly not easy for him to keep up with the young lads that have come through.
Recently we all witnessed an example of this when Hamilton was seen holding his back at the end of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the cars have become stiffer over the years and that takes a heavy toll on a driver’s body.
Hamilton as being one of the older guys on the grid is certainly not pleased with the new generation cars and given that F1 is going to have longer race calendars in the coming years, it could be in Hamilton’s best interest to call in quits when his current deal expires in 2023.
Lewis Hamilton has been an absolute Champion of the sport and after achieving almost everything in his career it would not be bad for him to walk away after 2023 and for a change give his aging body a rest and look after his heath because ultimately that is what keeps a persons clock ticking.
what do you think Lewis Hamilton should do when his Mercedes contract runs out at the end of the 2023 season?
