Dutch racer Nyck de Vries is all-set to make the move to Formula 1 next season after winning the Formula E World Championship in 2021 as he has signed a new deal with AlphaTauri to drive beside Yuki Tsunoda. The 2019 Formula 2 racer had waited years for a chance to enter the highest league of motorsports, and now that he is at the doorstep, he believes his goals are set for his time at the Italian team.

In an interview for F1 YouTube’s Beyond the Grid segment, Nyck de Vries talked about his hasty deal with AlphaTauri that materialized very suddenly, and he also mentioned how his replacement drive at Monza for Williams created an opportunity for him. The interviewer also veered to questions about his impending time at his new team, asking him all about his preparations for next season and how he sees the results turn out for AlphaTauri in 2023.

According to the Dutchman, he is quite sure of his team’s potential in F1 since it is Red Bull’s sister team, and “shares a lot of knowledge and potential” with them. Nyck de Vries also hinted that he is treating this chance to join AlphaTauri as a step towards grabbing a seat at Red Bull in the future.

Fans might suspect that Nyck de Vries is in for a hard time at an Italian team, considering he is a Dutch racer and the languages are quite different, but according to the 27-year-old, the vernacular would not be a source of trouble for him as he speaks four languages and Italian is one of them. He said, “I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy during my karting days. So, it’s a really welcoming environment. I speak four languages, and my Italian is decent. I also speak French, and, of course, English and Dutch. I can also write in Italian.”

Then, de Vries was asked if he thinks his familiarity with the language will help him make himself at home at AlphaTauri by ingratiating with the team. To this, the Dutch racer said, “I hope so, and I believe it will.

With only three races to go, this season of Formula One is almost at an end, and the time is coming up for the winter testing. Nyck de Vries said a lot of the success of the team in the next year will be evident from the data gathered during the winter testing, so fans will be looking forward to his drive with the new AlphaTauri car for 2023 to check out if he seems to have some real potential.
