Fernando Alonso recently dropped a bombshell when he announced that he is moving to Aston Martin for 2023 and Formula One reporter Ted Kravtiz believes Alonso decided to switch to the Lawerence-Stroll-owned team because of the lack of ambition at the Alpine Formula One team.

It has been many years since the French team has been trying to fight with the very best and first it was under the name Renault and now with Alpine. The team despite showing a lot of promise last season is again stuck in a midfield battle.

It was believed that Alpine was going to make a big statement this year but despite all the early hype, the team is again in the mid-field and it appears that it is seeing 2022 as a gap year and maybe would be able to compete with the lights of Red Bull, Ferrari, and, Mercedes next year.

Moreover, Ted Kravitz has had his say over the out-of-the-blue departure of Alonso and has said, “But what does this say about Alpine? Christian Horner, in one of his sometimes not-so-edifying quips about Renault during Red Bull’s engine deal, would say that Renault F1 is a team that wants first class, but are only prepared to pay economy. Maybe Fernando’s seen that as well?”

Aston Martin Formula One team is owned by Lawrence Stroll who is seen as an ardent lover of F1 and wants his team to be competing with the very best.

Moreover, in an attempt to make his vision a reality, he has recently recruited the services of former employees of Red Bull and the Ferrari Formula One team.

Kravtiz has further added, “Maybe he’s seen that there isn’t a level of investment that he’s seen at Aston Martin, and Alpine are ready to just tick on by, aim for fourth in the constructors’? Does it serve Renault’s wishes just to keep the Alpine name there and compete at a certain level?

“I wonder if Fernando saw a lack of ambition that he hadn’t seen during his time as a Renault factory driver. That’s why he chose to look elsewhere.”

Fernando Alonso is currently 41 years old and does not have loads of years left in the sport. The Spaniard has many times talked about his desire to fight for the Championship one more time and Kravitz feels that he sees Aston Martin as the team who could make his dream a reality.

A lot has been said about the sudden move of Alonso from Alpine to Aston Martin and what are your opinions about the same? Has the Spaniard made the right call?
