“That’s also how Lewis won his championships,” Max Verstappen comes out firing after Lewis Hamilton’s recent jibe

Lewis Hamilton is undoubtedly one of the best drivers to have driven a F1 car but credit also needs to go the teams that he has driven for. A driver is bound to feel hamstrung on a race track without a fast and reliable challenger. Luckily for Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes and McLaren produced rather competitive machinery which allowed him to showcase his talents at the grandest stages of them all.

At the turn of the year with those massive overhaul in regulations, tables turned for Mercedes who failed to live up to the expectations. Max Verstappen and Red Bull had been waiting as lurking predators for the longest time and jumped on the opportunity at the first time of asking. While the reigning world champions tops the driver’s championship, Red Bull also enjoy a comfortable lead over Ferrari in the constructor’s championship.

Recently, Lewis Hamilton was asked about what does he think about Max Verstappen’s performance over the 2022 season. The seven time world championship said that Adrian Newey deserves more credit for building the kind of machinery that they have done. This was bound to spark a debate in the paddock and it was just a matter of time before Max Verstappen responded to these claims by Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen gives a savage response to Lewis Hamilton’s comments against him

Max was having none of it as he retaliated against the comments of Lewis. Speaking during the FIA press conference, he said, “There’s a lot of that is down to the team, of course, as also how Lewis won his championships. That’s how it goes in Formula 1.”

Your car is super-important, but I think when you’re an exceptional driver like of course Lewis is as well, you make a difference over your team-mate at the time, because in very crucial races as well.”

That’s what good drivers do. They do make the difference compared to other fast drivers but not as good. So, yeah, the car is very dominant in Formula 1 but of course between team-mates, only one can win, and that’s where you have to make the difference.”

This looks like a sour move by Lewis Hamilton who himself had the fastest car on track for the better half of the last decade. This argument will go long into the night as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s rivalry continues to be in the limelight despite that not being the case on the race track.
