“That’s why I compared him to Senna,” Helmut Marko deems Max Verstappen at par with the legendary Ayrton Senna

Max Verstappen is in a commanding position in the 2022 Drivers Championship, and ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Helmut Marko has stated that in his opinion the prolific Dutchman is at par with former F1 Champion Ayrton Senna.
Helmut Marko has further indicated that the 24-year-old is the fastest driver that Red Bull has ever had and is someone who is honing his craft with each passing season.
Moreover, Marko has also compared the exploits of Max Verstappen to some of the other legends of F1 and feels Verstappen is a cut above the rest. He even places him ahead of Sebastian Vettel who Red Bull 4 consecutive World titles.
While comparing Verstappen to the German, Marko said, “He is definitely the fastest driver Red Bull has ever had.”
Helmut Marko has blatantly made it clear that Max Verstappen is faster than Sebastian Vettel and also is the fastest driver that Red Bull has ever had in their racing history in F1.
The 79-year-old is 100 percent on point in his assessment as Verstappen’s star in F1 is on the rise and with the kind of form he is showing this year, he has got an extremely bright future ahead of him.
Helmut Marko feels Max Verstappen has got extremely good control when it comes to driving on the limit
Max Verstappen made his debut for the Red Bull F1 team back in 2016, and since then,, has made massive improvements in his race craft. Moreover, Marko believes that he has got an immense control when it comes to driving on the limit.
While praising the Dutchman’s control over the Red Bull livery, Marko said, “In addition, he has fantastic control of the car – especially on the limits. That’s why I compared him to Ayrton Senna in his early years. I didn’t necessarily make friends with that.”
He further adds, “My good friend Gerhard Berger wrote to me at the time that the comparison was far too far-fetched. He no longer disagrees.”
Helmut Marko has made it known that people were quite skeptical of him when he compared Verstappen to Senna during the Dutchman’s early years in the sport, but as the years have passed, no one now disagrees with his assessment.
Max Verstappen, at the moment, is on course to win his second F1 World Championship and Helmut Marko and Co. are happy that he is a Red Bull driver and not doing his trade for any other rival team.
