“That’s world-class right there” – Christian Horner overwhelmed by Sergio Perez’s “best drive of his career” at the Singapore GP
Sergio Perez and Christian Horner
Sergio Perez proved yet again today that he is the master of street circuits after winning the 2022 Singapore GP by a 5 + second margin leaving Christian Horner with nothing but praise for the Mexican driver. It was a tough race with multiple incidents taking place at the back, yet Sergio was unbothered and crossed the finish line first. It was an unfortunate day for Charles Leclerc as he lost a win yet again after starting a race on the pole.
After a one-hour delay, the racing action finally commenced as the 2022 Singapore GP got away with Verstappen not getting a good start and falling back. Sergio Perez on the other hand was a different animal behind the RB challenger and managed to slip past Leclerc to lead the race after turn 1. The Red Bull driver further went on and managed to defend and keep his lead and crossed the finish line in 1st place making him the only non-world champion to win under the lights in Singapore.
Christian Horner was among the group of people who were massively ecstatic about Sergio Perez’s glorious victory at the Marina Bay circuit. The Red Bull team principal even went on to state that it was the “best drive of his career” as he went on to praise him for his valiant efforts. Here is what he had to say about the Mexican’s performance this weekend.
“He nailed it,” Christian Horner on Sergio Perez’s performance at the 2022 Singapore GP
The Red Bull team principal further elaborated his thoughts. “He nailed it and converted the start. He was always in control and super cool. Super proud of him today. That’s world-class right there. Under massive pressure, he delivered,” he said.
Overall, this was an important win for Sergio Perez as he managed to shut off his critics yet again after qualifying for P2 and winning the race in spectacular fashion. This puts him in a prime spot for P2 in the driver’s championship for which he is competing with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. The next 5 races will be interesting. With the Japanese GP happening this week, all focus will be shifting there as we approach Honda’s home race.
