‘The King of Zandvoort’: F1 Twitter sent into a frenzy after Max Verstappen’s second consecutive Dutch GP win

The Dutch Grand Prix was completely exhilarating, with twists and turns that had viewers on the edge of their seats. At the start, Max Verstappen got away well, and soon settled into a comfortable rhythm and lead over Charles Leclerc. He was looking good for the win at that point, but there was more to come.

Lewis Hamilton started on the medium tyres and went much longer than the leaders. As such, he was in the lead for quite a few laps, until he pit on lap 30 for hard tyres, and the game looked on, as most likely, Verstappen would’ve come out behind him, and had to overtake to win. Overtaking isn’t particularly easy at Zandvoort. But Hamilton wouldn’t complete that stint.

On lap 48, Yuki Tsunoda, who had been having problems for a few laps, stopped on the side of the track after coming out of the pits. This brought out a VSC, and Hamilton pit for the mediums. But the safety car came out again on lap 55, and he didn’t pit. But the other leaders did, and Max Verstappen cruised past him at the safety car restart and kept George Russell comfortably behind to seal his victory.

Max Verstappen wins the Dutch GP and the orange army go wild

Max Verstappen has won his third race in a row, and his second Dutch Grand Prix in a row. It also happens to be the 30th race win of his career. He has a 109-point lead over ‘earlier’ rival Charles Leclerc, and it will take some special sort of disaster for him to come close to losing the championship now. It’s all but unassailable. He could miss 4 races and still win the title.

The fans are loving it, and the home fans were certainly loving it. Despite the ban on flares from the venue, many went off in the crowd regardless following the end of the race, despite the reported ‘No tolerance’ policy that was to be followed by the Dutch GP organizers. Thankfully, no one threw any on the track this time.

After the race, fans took to Twitter to celebrate and express their joy at the Dutchman’s superb win. Hannah Schmitz is an integral part of the team at Red Bull, and fans praised her to no end.

There was also no shortage of praise for Super Max himself.

Next up is Monza, just 7 days later, on the 11th of July. The track is expected to suit Red Bull, and Max Verstappen may well be taking another win there, which will bring his tally to 11 for the season. A potential 1-2 for Red Bull in Monza will just pile on the pain for Ferrari, and will really be salt in the wounds for them.
