“The king whose throne was shaken by a much younger one,” Helmut Marko believes Max Verstappen’s sheer aggression rattled Lewis Hamilton

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton went through an epic battle as the two literally went wheel to wheel till the very last lap of the season. Obviously, one had to win and the other one had to lose, unfortunately. But irrespective of who won, it cannot be said that the other one didn’t deserve it had he won because both of them were at the peak of their powers and also rode their luck during different but crucial times.

The finale of this epic season was not ideal as it did provide a spectacle for the audience but it was far from ideal for any aficionado of F1. There were a thread of controversial decisions by the then race director Michael Masi which did taint the authenticity of the championship, which shouldn’t have been the case.

But there was one thing that stood out irrespective of the outcome. Lewis Hamilton was put in an uncomfortable position by Max Verstappen on more than one occasion. The seven time world champion had never been in such a position when he was hassled by a new comer in the society. The Briton has always looked like the driver who has all the bases cover, but not this time around.

Helmut Marko recently said that Charles Leclerc is different kettle of fish as compared to Lewis Hamilton. He has watched both the rivalries from close quarters. He said, “It was different with Lewis Hamilton: He is much older, he was the king whose throne was shaken by a much younger one. From a psychological point of view, this is a completely different requirement.”

“With Ferrari there is a better relationship. What’s more, Max is now driving against [Charles] Leclerc, they grew up together in karting, have known each other for a long time, are a generation.” as reported by express.

No one can remotely deny how impressive Charles Leclerc has looked this season. But it’ll be unfair to put down the seven time world champion just because of his age. Given the right car, Lewis Hamilton still can produce magic and compete against Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.
