Fernando Alonso will be driving for Aston Martin in 2023. The move itself had come out of nowhere after Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement, also seemingly out of nowhere. But now there’s quite a bit of excitement building around the team (and Alonso) for the upcoming season. The Spaniard tends to ‘lift’ the teams he’s at, and extract the maximum possible performance from the car.

And Alonso made an instant impact on the team – in particular, with the car development. As Aston Martin’s ‘Deputy Technical Chief’, Eric Blandin stated, the Spaniard was able to ‘immediately identify’ some important aspects that the team has now fed into the design of the AMR23 (as it’s dubbed). Blandin further praised Alonso’s feedback as ‘extremely precise’.

So some improvements are expected at the British team next year – that may lift them into a better midfield position. It’s highly unlikely they’ll get anywhere else next year, even though they showed a very impressive rate of development in 2022. But now that they have Alonso at their hands, you can expect them to continue improving – he’ll demand perfection. So, fans are excited to see what he can do at Aston Martin, and the reaction to a recent video of him reflects this.

F1 fans agree: Aston Martin green suits Fernando Alonso

Aston Martin recently uploaded a video on their Twitter, showing Fernando Alonso ‘reporting for duty’ at the Aston Martin factory – a very exciting prospect. The season approaches ever more quickly, and the team (and Alonso) must be ready for the challenges. As he’d said in a previous video, he’s likely there for simulation sessions and seat fitting. The 2023 Aston Martin machine, the AMR23, will be ‘launched’ in February at their Silverstone base. Whatever may be the reason, fans are full of adoration for him.

Translation: “That smile knows many things.”

Green certainly does seem to suit Alonso, and he’s likely to keep donning it in the next few years. Some have trouble coming to grips with the fact that the Spaniard is actually going to drive for Aston Martin – the surprise announcement seems to have had a hangover effect. But most people seem to be loving the sight of Alonso in green.

Even the official account of the Fernando Alonso museum (and karting circuit) has chipped in.

At the same time, fans will be hoping that this move turns out well for Alonso. He will be 42 this year, and self-admittedly, despite the jests, cannot drive forever. But he still has the talent and a few seasons, left in him. No one would want him to spend these years struggling, or in the lower midfield. To keep the people satisfied, Aston Martin must, at a minimum, make the jump into the ‘upper midfield’ category.

There also seems to be quite a demand for Aston Martin merchandise now. We can all guess the reason, right?

Aston Martin launch their car on February 13, which is when we’ll get a first look at their livery for the next season. For the performance, however, we’ll have to wait for the pre-season testing in Bahrain. For an actual, clear benchmark, fans will have to wait till qualifying in Bahrain. All of the Spaniard’s fans will hope Aston Martin do well there – and will be eagerly anticipating the Grand Prix weekend, like all F1 fans.
