“These choices are not made by me,” Charles Leclerc unconcerned with if Ferrari will choose him as their ‘Number 1’ driver
Charles Leclerc and Mattia Binotto
Charles Leclerc has proven himself to be a championship contender and a step ahead of his team mate, Carlos Sainz. The Monegasque driver returned to winning ways in Austria as he came back from behind to beat the reigning world champion and arch rival, Max Verstappen. This helped him cut the deficit to 37 points at the top of the championship.
We are only half way through this season and therefore it’ll be foolish to think that Max Verstappen has already won the championship. We have already seen Max Verstappen overturn a 46 points deficit into a 46 points lead in a matter of 6 odd races. That means it might take a herculean effort from Charles Leclerc but it’s definitely possible.
For that to happen, Charles Leclerc will need help from his team. The two biggest problems for Charles Leclerc have been Ferrari’s unreliability and average decision making. If the Monegasque driver wants to win the championship, he might need to be prioritized. There have been times when he has looked fast but has has no team orders to be able to showcase his maximum pace.
Charles Leclerc said that it’s down to Mattia Binotto to decide Ferrari’s No.1 driver
But, Charles Leclerc is unfazed with this as he feels his job is to perform as a driver and nothing else. He said, “These choices are not made by me, and I did not ask for anything. I mean, I don’t want to think about that.“
“My job is to drive the car and I will try to drive it as quickly as possible. Then these choices are not made by me, and I did not ask for anything. Rather it is Mattia who will take care of these choice, he will say when and how in due time.”
“So yeah, for now I’m just focusing on myself, trying to do the best job on the track and that’s the best thing I can do for myself and also for the team.“
He might want to admit it or not but if he wants to overturn a deficit of 37 points in 11 races, he will need tea, orders at some point in time, keeping in mind Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s pace.
