“They are all important”: Daniel Ricciardo reacts to comments on 2022 being the most important F1 season of his career

Daniel Ricciardo

For Daniel Ricciardo, more than 10 years in Formula 1 have seriously made up an illustrious career that many racers are never fortunate enough to experience. At 32 years of age, the Australian is still going strong in his McLaren racecar, as he hopes to get much better results for his Woking-based team than he has been able to give them in the eight races that have taken place so far in this season.

As a racer who has literally grown with time in Formula 1, Daniel Ricciardo’s career has had ups and downs all along the way. He came with his guns blazing into Red Bull and earned three Grand Prix victories in only his debut year with the team. But in the end, in 2018, he decided to leave the team for Renault with a hugely expensive contract as he could not get what he wanted from Red Bull anymore.

As Daniel’s career underwent a paradigm shift with his move to Renault, F1 pundits had said either this would make or break his future in the sport. Till date, Daniel has not earned the kind of success he did with Red Bull. With every passing season, Daniel’s once-shiny hope of winning the World Championship gets faded, and now, in 2022, Daniel is faced with the challenge of proving to all who doubt him that he is capable of staying in F1 even now.

In this current season of F1, Daniel Ricciardo has been faced with many comments of whether he is still capable of driving in the premier class anymore. Many F1 pundits are of the opinion that his career is at an all-time low now, and McLaren might dro him from his contract because of his poor performance. Some outlets have even mentioned that Daniel should look into IndyCar if he has to exit F1 anytime soon.

So, one might think Ricciardo would believe this season is the most crucial year of his career in Formula 1 where he has to prove to those who criticize him that yes, he is worthy of a seat in Formula 1. But in reality, Daniel Ricciardo does not think like that at all. When asked about his most important season in F1, he said, “They are all important, I wouldn’t put more importance on this one.

He continued, “Strictly speaking, probably 2013 was my most important [year] when I was trying to get the Red Bull drive, especially after I knew Mark [Webber] was retiring. I knew that year could have really propelled me to a top team. So that was very, very important at the time.

Whereas this year, it’s more about me proving myself right. I think long story short, I know I can still do it, and I believe 100% in myself. Even if that wavered a bit last year, it’s definitely back.”
