“They are very much on the same pace,” Toto Wolff backs Lewis Hamilton after the bad luck continues in Monaco
Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton
Toto Wolff backed Lewis Hamilton after a bad performance in Monaco Grand Prix, as he managed to finish only eighth while his teammate managed to get another top 5, seven times in a row now. Hamilton was stuck behind the Alpine of Fernando Alonso throughout the race to which he later said he wasn’t much frustrated being behind the Alpine.
The Mercedes World champion also made contact with the Alpine of Esteban Ocon which gave the latter a five- second time penalty. George Russell, on the other hand was comfortably driving in the 5th position behind both the Ferrari’s and Red Bull’s. The Briton has been having a bad Monaco race for the second time in a row, last time around he was stuck behind the AlphaTauri of Gasly.
Toto estimated the 7-time world champion to be on the top fighting, George and Lando, but due to his bad luck was on the eighth. “He could have been right there and could have closed Lando [Norris, sixth] or even fight with George [fifth] and Lando at the front because that was his pace,” said Toto in an interview with Sky Sport.

The two Brits are in the same W13 but the new teammate is beating the World Champion in the first seven rounds of the 2022 season. Russell is the only driver to score points in all races this season that too in being in the 5 all around.
But the boss doesn’t seem to differentiate between the two, he still thinks Hamilton is on the same pace with the new teammate, it has just been his bad luck on the track that has kept him behind everyone, “I think the pendulum will swing and this unlucky situation will stop with Lewis as they are very much on the same pace.” said Toto.
The Championship is still not over for any of the Mercedes drivers, after the jump the silver had shown in Spain, the team still has a lot to improve but will be ready for it.
