“They’re iconic brands,” Red Bull and Christian Horner excited about Porsche’s entry into F1

Christian Horner & The Brands

It has been announced that Volkswagen would be entering into F1 with the engine changes in 2026, while Audi might be an entire separate team, Porsche would be making their entry as engine manufacturers. By 2026, the budget cap would be something that would be troubling all the teams in upgrading their cars, and powerful engines like Porsche entering the sport would mean that teams operating on those engines would be powerful enough to not rely on the upgrades completely.

Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner has been excited about the same, since he expects a Red Bull – Porsche deal for 2026, but at the same time he remains open to all decisions. Until the 2021 season, Red Bull were being powered by Honda engines, which also enabled them to be competitive enough to win the 2021 driver’s championship, and finish up 2nd in the constructor’s championship. In 2022, Red Bull are manufacturing their own engine, although they had reliability issues at the start of the season, they have managed to stay extensively competitive enough against Ferrari, and also win all the races where they have finished.

As soon as the entries of new engines were announced, speculation about a Red Bull – Porsche deal started spreading in the air. Horner has stated that the entry of these brands would be amazing to the sport as they are very iconic in themselves, and would like to have a talk about a deal between the two.

“I think it’s fantastic that they’re talking about coming into Formula 1,” GPBlog quoted the British. “They’re iconic brands — particularly Porsche brand is particularly iconic. It would be logical to hold conversations with them after declaring their intent to enter the sport.”

However, Horner earlier stated that this is too early to talk about any such deals between the company and the team; he stated to the media that if any such deal were to take place, the first who would come to know are the media. Red Bull and Max Verstappen currently lead the constructor’s and driver’s championship with 235 and  125 points, respectively.
