Several supporters have complained about abuse they have encountered at the Austria F1 race weekend on social media, such as the use of homophobic and racist taunts, catcalling, and other horrible comments. F1 received the fan complaints and responded by saying it will be taking more measures.
“We have been made aware of reports that some fans have been subject to completely unacceptable comments by others at the event. We have raised this with the promoter and security and will be speaking to those who have reported these incidents and are taking this very seriously,” read a statement issued by F1.

Austrian GP weekend turns out to be a nightmare for F1 fans

This weekend’s supporter misconduct in Austria has already made headlines as the Orange Army in the stands cheered and celebrated after Lewis Hamilton crashed during qualification on Friday. It is believed that more than 50,000 Dutch fans have flocked to Austria for this weekend’s event, which will draw 105,000 spectators on Sunday due to a sold-out audience.
“This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated and all fans should be treated with respect,” continued the statement issued by F1. Hamilton found it “mind-blowing” that spectators would applaud a collision, especially without understanding the driver’s health.

“I’m grateful that I wasn’t in hospital, and I wasn’t heavily injured, but you should never cheer someone’s downfall or someone’s injury or crash. It shouldn’t have happened in Silverstone, even though it wasn’t obviously a crash, and it shouldn’t have happened here,” said Hamilton.
