Scuderia Ferrari fell behind Red Bull at the start of the 2023 F1 season. The Italian team was aware of the shortfalls of its 2023 challenger, the SF23. Subsequently, Maranello began working on extensive upgrades for its car for this year. The Miami GP saw the new underbody for the car. However, Ferrari has decided to delay the next highly-anticipated package.
The Prancing Horse was planning to bring a major update package to the sixth round of the season in Imola. But as per reports, Fred Vasseur‘s team has postponed the update, which will now be brought in at the Spanish GP in Barcelona. However, the two races before the Barcelona weekend will see preparatory measures being put in place by Ferrari as the team tries to ensure the desired results.
The report claimed, “Ferrari has changed its development plan. The big upgrade won’t come until Barcelona after all. But there will be preparatory measures at every race before that.” This comes as a major blow to Ferrari fans as Maranello will be forced to compete with its current package against the mighty Red Bull Racing cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

New Ferrari underbody potentially resulted in high tire wear in Miami
The report stated that the underbody brought in for the Miami GP aimed to improve the aero efficiency of the car as well as in reducing the balance shifts. Although this also affected the tire wear for the team. The report said, “These are one of the main reasons for the high tyre wear.” Both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc were nowhere near the front runners during the Grand Prix
The Monegasque driver crashed twice at the same corner over the course of the weekend as the Monegasque driver struggled to gain control of the car. Though, Charles Leclerc has stated his faith in Ferrari despite the team’s failure to match Red Bull regarding race pace. The 25-year-old gained an edge over the Austrian team in a one-lap pace in Baku, where he clinched the Pole position.
Thus, Scuderia Ferrari seems to be working behind schedule with its latest update package. The Emilia Romagna GP was seen as potentially a major turning point for Fred Vasseur’s team as it brought the highly-anticipated upgrades. However, the Tifosi will have to wait for a couple of more rounds till Maranello can finally bring in its big upgrades.
