Sergio Perez has had a tumultuous 2023 Formula 1 season so far. Perez has not been able to come anywhere near his in-form teammate, Max Verstappen, and for this, he has come under tremendous criticism from outside and within the Red Bull camp. While much has already been said about his prospects for next year, the F1 Nation host, Tom Clarkson, has revealed what could save Perez his seat for 2024.

Sergio Perez has been with the Milton-Keynes-based F1 team since the 2021 season. Since then, he has had quite a few ups and downs, but when it comes to the ongoing campaign, it has been nothing short of horrendous. His uneven form has put doubts in the minds of Christian Horner and Co. about whether he is the man to race alongside Max Verstappen next year.

Tom Clarkson has closely followed the exploits of the 33-year-old this year and, via F1 Nation Podcast, has said, “If he doesn’t finish second in that RB19, the team will not look favorably. I think it could speed up his exit from the team. I think his future at Red Bull might even depend on that second place.” Clarkson has made it pretty clear that Perez needs to finish in second place this year at any cost.

Otherwise, Red Bul will not hesitate to offload him ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 season. Sergio Perez’s current deal with the Austrian team covers the 2024 campaign. Still, the way he has performed this year has led to the circulation of rumors that have indicated that Horner and Co. could show him the exit door in case he does not end his 2023 exploits in second position.

Sergio Perez has six races remaining to save his F1 career

While Tom Clarkson has given the ultimatum to Sergio Perez to get his act together, the latter has only six opportunities left to showcase to Red Bull that he is the right man to partner with the reigning world champion next year. All the Grand Prix events from this week’s Qatar GP onward will hold a lot of significance for Perez.

Sergio Perez is currently in hold of second place in the driver’s standings with 223 points to his name, but the former 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, is not too far behind in the third position; as things stand, the Mercedes maestro has so far managed 190 points and is just 33 points of adrift of the Mexican in the standings.

Considering everything that has been discussed above, the upcoming races are going to be do-or-die events for Perez. He has been in such situations previously as well in his career and has come out of it roaring. However, it will not be easy, considering how much he has struggled to get to grips with the Austrian outfit’s RB19.
