Toto Wolff admits Mercedes has to ‘climb Mount Everest’ to beat Max Verstappen’s Red Bull in 2024
Red Bull won both championships again consecutively in 2023, with Mercedes placed second far behind in a winless season.

Red Bull has racked up an impressive tally of wins in the past two seasons, completely dominating the ground effect era of Formula 1. The Milton Keyes-based team took a record number of wins in 2023, managing to claim 21 of the 22 races held in the season.
Mercedes, the team that dominated before Red Bull’s glory era, are having a hard time catching up. Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, has an optimistic outlook on what seems to be a humongous challenger ahead of the Silver Arrows. Wolff says Mercedes could use the transition to 2024 in a purported converging field to make progress.
We really have to climb Mount Everest. Because Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren are very strong. And 2026 is already around the corner. The most encouraging part is being part of that transition and using that to try and win again.Toto Wolff said, as reported by silverarrows.net
Mercedes has made some progress in the development of the vehicle to be used in the 2024 season. The W15 will be the successor to the less successful W14 could manage zero wins in 2023 and has brand-new components to aid the combat with Red Bull to the top.
Toto Wolff says he embraces risks as team principal
Toto Wolff has been team principal of Mercedes since 2013, joining the year after F1 legend Michael Schumacher retired from the sport. Wolff led the Brackley-based outfit to eight championships, including seven Drivers’ Championships.
Wolff recently extended his contract with Mercedes as team principal for three more years to go hand-in-hand with his position as the CEO of the team. Wolff revealed his passion for the challenges that come with the position, despite the difficulty of managing them.
The risk for me is always more bore-out than burnout. And that’s why I embrace the challenges we have today, even though they sometimes feel very, very difficult to manage.Toto Wolff said, as reported by silverarrows.net
Wolff has expressed confidence in Mercedes’ performance in 2024. In the final race of 2023 at Abu Dhabi, Mercedes managed to gain some respite by achieving second place in the Constructors’ Championships after a lengthy battle with Ferrari.
