Max Verstappen had a record-breaking campaign with Red Bull in 2023. The reigning world champion is set to dominate this season after a stellar Bahrain GP victory. However, tensions at Milton Keynes have escalated in the past few weeks amidst Christian Horner’s inappropriate behavior claims. So much so, that the three-time world champion is rumored to potentially leave Red Bull to join Mercedes to replace Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton.

Toto Wolff met Jos Verstappen during the Bahrain GP. The Austrian claimed that everything was possible regarding the three-time world champion’s future. Max Verstappen is currently contracted to Red Bull till at least 2028. However, there have been rumors of a potential exit clause for the 26-year-old. Moreover, Dr. Helmut Marko has insisted that he would not block Verstappen from leaving Red Bull.

Wolff highlighted that the driver market was at an interesting place. However, the Austrian claimed that the best driver would always want the fastest car available. Subsequently, there would be no real reason for Max Verstappen to ditch Red Bull for Mercedes in the future. Although, Toto Wolff hinted that the door was open for the three-time world champion.

The market is very interesting. For a driver the most important thing is to be with those who are faster and there is no reason why Max now leaves Red Bull shortly… But we’ll see what happens…

Toto Wolff told Sky Sports F1

Could Max Verstappen join Mercedes in 2025?

Max Verstappen is presently at the peak of his career. The 26-year-old remains the favorite for a fourth consecutive title with Red Bull this season. The Dutch driver has been part of the Red Bull family for almost a decade and achieved historic success with Milton Keynes.

However, the tensions between Jos Verstappen and Christian Horner could cause trouble for the 26-year-old. Max Verstappen has remained a loyalist to his father and would likely follow his father’s advice to potentially leave Red Bull if tensions continued to rise. Although, it must be noted that the three-time world champion is in the best place to win the world championship with Milton Keynes.

Certainly, rumors surrounding a potential Max Verstappen move to Mercedes have increased in recent days. The three-time world champion has not commented on the speculation for now. However, fans would be looking forward to seeing how things shake up in the F1 driver market this year.
