George Russell, the Mercedes F1 driver, is one of the most exciting talents on the modern F1 grid. In 2022 he shocked the world by beating Lewis Hamilton and ahead of the 2024 F1 season, Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, has claimed that he has met all expectations.
While George Russell is an extremely fast driver, he had a torrid time against his teammate last year. At the end of 2023, Hamilton ended the campaign in third place with 234 points whereas Russell was only able to conjure up 175.
However, despite this fact, Toto Wolff is pleased with the job the 25-year-old has done for the team. While talking about the same, the former recently told La Gazzetta dello Sport, (H/T: Silverarrows.net)
George is a young, strong driver, racing on a team with the best driver and challenging him, trying to beat him while he learns. But he has met all our expectations. When I think of his age and talent, he is someone I would always want on one of my teams.
Looking at the reaction of the Austrian, it is quite clear that in his opinion, Russell is still developing under the guidance of Hamilton. Moreover, has even gone on to admit that the young Brit is someone he would always want on his team.
George Russell is contracted to Mercedes until the end of 2025
While George Russell has received immense praise from Wolff for his exploits, the former has a very important 2024 season heading his way. Last year, he was only able to manage an eighth-place finish in the driver’s standings.
Russell is contracted to the Brackley-based team until the end of 2025 and considering this, the upcoming and next year’s campaigns are going to hold immense significance for him. Hamilton is also in the same boat.
