Toto Wolff, the Mercedes Team Principal, has enjoyed much success with the Brackley-based team. During the turbo hybrid era, they were able to destroy their competition, but since the dawn of new regulations last year, things haven’t panned out well for them at the pinnacle of motor racing.
The outfit has struggled massively since 2022 and hasn’t been able to produce a car worthy of fighting for the F1 World Championship. While the team has come under criticism for its average performances, Toto Wolff feels Mercedes fans are not as ruthless as fans of some of the other groups.
While shedding light on the same, Silverstonearrows quotes him, “It’s always great to see the fan support. And I think we are one of a few teams that don’t get a lot of negative comments when the car is not good. Contrary to many others I think we have such a strong supporters group that cheer for us, that suffer with us.”
Looking at the comments of the 51-year-old, it is quite clear he is very pleased with how the fans have backed the Mercedes F1 team despite their up-and-down form since 2022. He ardently feels that the fans of the Mercedes team are one of the most loyal groups compared to the fans of some of the other F1 teams.
Toto Wolff’s team is desperate to come back at the front end of the F1 grid
While Toto Wolff has praised the Mercedes fans for supporting the team through thick and thin, he very well understands that he and his team have got a big job on their hands. The W14 hasn’t proven to be as potent machinery as the team would have thought it would be coming into the 2023 season.
Moreover, just after the midway point of the ongoing campaign, Lewis Hamilton and Co. are out of the F1 World Championship fight, with Red Bull cruising at the front. Since the dawn of new regulations, the German team has been on a learning curve that does not seem to end for them anytime soon.
However, despite the woes that the team has been facing at the pinnacle of motor racing, it is a common belief that it would come out roaring during the 2024 F1 season. Mercedes has got some of the brightest minds on the planet, and if they can come up with a solid car for next year, the Championship fight will become extremely fascinating.
