“They have more ambition,” Toto Wolff defines what is different about Lewis Hamilton and other F1 racers
Toto Wolff revealed his opinion on the drive that powers Lewis Hamilton's performance.
For Mercedes’ Boss Toto Wolff, a long F1 career spanning over 20 years has made him see it all in this sport. In 2009, he entered the world of Formula One by buying some shares in the Williams team. Ever since then, he has seen many F1 greats rise to their popularity thanks to their immense skills behind the wheels. Thus, when it comes to assessing which racers are extraordinarily skilled, Wolff has the right eye for talent.
In recent times, the competition in Formula 1 has been predominated by the young Dutch racer Max Verstappen while Lewis Hamilton had been the star of the scene before the 2021 season. Now, Toto Wolff has commented on what he believes sets the racing greats like Senna and Schumacher and the current talents like Verstappen and Hamilton apart from the rest of the Formula 1 racers.
The duel between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen has grown in degree since 2021 when the two massive F1 stars faced off for the World Championship that year. But in Toto Wolff’s eyes, both of them have immense talent as he said that they are very different, yet they have the same hunger when it comes to winning the races.

Toto Wolff has claimed that he likes the “rough side” of Lewis Hamilton
Speaking to Telegraaf on the “rough side” to Mercedes’ star racer Lewis Hamilton that sometimes comes out at times during the races, Toto Wolff commented on the fact that he finds this rough side commendable in the drivers. He said, “Whether it’s Max, Lewis, Michael or Ayrton, they’re all different. But they all have a rough side. I like people like that, difficult people. This often means they have more ambition and dedication.”
At the 2023 Azerbaijan GP, Lewis Hamilton gotthe fifth spot in the first Qualifying round, behind both Red Bulls and Ferraris. This has brought up questions that the Mercedes W14 is not competent enough to keep up with its rivals. Now it remains to be seen if Mercedes can up their performance in the next few Grands Prix with the new upgrades that they have planned for their racecar.
