Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton
Toto Wolff, the Mercedes Team Principal, has given an update on the contract negotiations with the former 7-time World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. Wolff has made it known that the talks are advancing rapidly and an announcement regarding the new contract is just around the corner.
Toto Wolff has been bombarded with Lewis Hamilton’s contract-related questions throughout the season, and while talking to CNBC in New York, he said, “We are still talking, I get this question every race weekend, and with such a good relationship that we dread the moment we need to talk about money. So it’s gonna happen soon. I think we are talking more days than weeks, if I commit to a date now then everybody is going to ask in Montreal on the weekend, what’s happened to the days.”
The Austrian has optimistically made fans aware that a new deal for Lewis Hamilton is just a matter of time and could be finalized in the next few days. This is great news for the die-hard fans of the Brit, and with a new contract under his belt, he would be finally able to leave all the contract fuss behind and fully focus on the task at hand on the Barckley-based team.
Mercedes is not in the World Championship fight this year and is targeting 2024 to have a real go at it. For now, the German team is doing everything possible to finish as high as possible in both Championships. Their direct competition during the ongoing campaign is with Ferrari and the Silverstone-based Aston Martin team.

Lewis Hamilton is easily one of the best drivers on the current Formula 1 grid, despite being 38 years old. Toto Wolff, during his recent interview with CNBC, was asked to dwell on the importance of the Brit for Mercedes, and while responding, he said, “I think from a team’s perspective Lewis and Mercedes have gone back a long time, he has never raced for any other brand than Mercedes and him and me we joined in 2013 together, 10 years it’s been. From a professional relationship, we have gone to a friendship and it’s been a wonderful time.”
“He is the most important personality in the sport, he is so multi-faceted not only on the track, so we need to keep him for as long as possible,” Wolff has left no stone unturned in his appreciation for what Lewis Hamilton has done so far in his glorious career and made it clear that Mercedes wants to keep him for as long as possible.
Considering the words of appreciation that Toto Wolff has said about Lewis Hamilton, it seems very likely that Lewis Hamilton will most probably end his career with the Mercedes team. While it has been made known that a new deal is in the pipeline, it is going to be interesting to see how long the deal will last.
