Toto Wolff praises Sebastian Vettel for ‘phenomenal track record’ amidst Mercedes rumors

Over the past few days, there have been rumors about a sensational comeback to F1 for the four-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel. Moreover, the driver has spoken about how he’s been talking to a lot of team principals and how he may get enticed to come back if he receives the right package.

The German has also been tipped as one of the potential drivers to replace Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes next season, now that the Briton is moving to Ferrari. Following the rumors, Toto Wolff was asked about Sebastian Vettel‘s chances of obtaining the Mercedes seat. Wolff was full of praise for the 36-year-old.

I think his track record is phenomenal, and sometimes maybe taking a break is also good to re-evaluate what’s important for you and refine your motivation. As I said before, we haven’t taken the decision yet and it’s not something that we plan to do in the next few weeks.

Vettel is one of the most successful drivers the sport has ever seen, with 53 Grand Prix wins, he will definitely be a suitable replacement for Hamilton. Wolff seemed to be hinting at a possibility of a comeback but added how he hasn’t made any decisions yet. Besides this, if he does decide to bring in the German for next year, it will be one of the biggest F1 comeback stories of all time.

Mercedes is not in a rush to fill 2025 seat

Amidst all the rumors of possible candidates for the Mercedes seat, Toto Wolff spoke about how he isn’t in a rush to select the driver. The Austrian is quite calm regarding the 2025 Mercedes situation.

The 52-year-old has added how he isn’t rushing to a decision due to the dynamic nature of the driver market. Wolff wants to properly evaluate whether he wants to give the vacant seat to an experienced driver or a young talent.

I know that the driver market is very dynamic, Some of the really good guys they’re about to sign for some of the other teams and we want to continue to have these discussions and keep the options open. But at that stage, I think it’s much too early for us to commit to a driver whether they’re a very young or whether they’re very experienced. The next the next few months will give us more clues.
