Lewis Hamilton‘s Mercedes contract runs out at the end of this season. Contract negotiations have been taking place for months between the Silver Arrows and Hamilton’s team. Yet, the two parties have not put pen to paper as of now. Now, Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has given another update on the progress on a contract renewal for the 7-time world champion.
Previously, rumors had surfaced that the delay in the contract extension can be credited to Hamiton’s demand for an ambassador role with Mercedes for the long term. However, Wolff dismissed such claims and made it clear that no such discussion has taken place. He said, “We are not talking about that and it is not a subject in the contract negotiations.”
The Austrian Billionaire was convinced that Lewis Hamilton has the ability to continue in F1 for several years. As the 7-time world champion has truly proved himself as one of the best drivers in the sport’s history. Wolff mentioned that Mercedes and Hamilton’s team were now making small alterations to the contract extension. Toto Wolff explained, “I believe he can last for years to come. That is why we are now only working on minor adjustments to the contract.”

Toto Wolff acknowledges the delay in Lewis Hamilton’s new contract
Wolff admitted that Hamilton’s contract extension has taken a significant time. The 51-year-old went as far as stating that the delay in the confirmation might make fans feel insecure about the contract renewal. Although, the Mercedes team boss clarified that only a few minor points needed to be dealt with. Toto Wolff concluded, “I know it all seems a bit insecure, because why has not yet been signed? It’s the little details we’re talking about.”
Lewis Hamilton has not been part of the current talks with Mercedes. Instead, it’s the team of the 38-year-old that is managing the negotiations with the Silver Arrows. For now, it seems that neither Hamilton nor Wolff can give a clear date for when the 7-time world champion’s deal for the future in Brackley could be announced.
Thus, Toto Wolff made it clear that Lewis Hamilton’s contract talks do not involve any subject of a possible managerial role. The Silver Arrows are negotiating with the management team of its star driver with only a few details remaining to be addressed. As such, fans would be eagerly waiting to hear the official confirmation from Hamilton and Mercedes in the upcoming weeks.
