Toto Wolff savors Mercedes’ road to recovery: ” It reflects the mammoth effort of the team”

Toto Wolff and Mercedes have had a decent run of results lately after what was one of their worst starts to the season. Lewis Hamilton has had three back to back podiums and George Russell has also scored some valuable points for the Silver Arrows. The team from Germany scored a total of 27 points in Austria, which was a big deal after what was a horrible start to the weekend.

Mercedes W-13 was looking promising around the Red Bull Ring but that pace didn’t convert into a first or a second row start for neither of the drivers. That was because both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell crashed out of the qualifying session in Q3. This left the team back in the garage with a lot of work so that both the cars were ready to go on Saturday

Mercedes miraculously were able to do that and thankfully, it was a sprint weekend in Austria, which gave both the drivers an opportunity to make some places going into the race. It was pretty clear that Mercedes were a step or two behind the Ferrari and Red Bull. But, somehow they were able to dig deep and able to secure P3 and P4.

Toto Wolff was definitely happy with the result and the progress that the team has made in the last few weeks. Appreciating the team’s work, Mercedes’ team Principal said, “Third and fourth in Austria was a satisfying result for the whole team, particularly given the position we were in on Friday evening.”

The team worked miracles to have two complete race cars ready for the Sprint and Grand Prix.

“27 points on Sunday were a good reward for that effort. We scored three podiums in the first seven races, and we have now achieved four in the last four. I’m pleased with the momentum we are building, and it reflects the mammoth effort of the team.”

Of course, the signs are promising for the team from Germany but it feels like their aspiration to fight for the titles is over. It’s time to limit the damage and Toto Wolff understands that.
