Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton were in a heated discussion over the team radio at the Austrian GP. Wolff was trying his best to keep the Brit’s head in the game, and he has recently admitted that his interaction with Hamilton is not going to have a significant impact on the latter’s new deal with Mercedes.
Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton’s entourage have been at the negotiation table for a long time, fine-tuning certain details, and the latter feels a new deal is not too far away. He ardently believes everything is in harmony between himself and the 38-year-old despite their heated conversation during the penalties-ridden Austrian GP.
The 51-year-old, while talking about Hamilton’s new deal, said, “No, not at all. You should hear us talking on the phone and meeting each other. That was nothing. We have had a bad weekend, all of us on the team, and that just makes us stronger. It was only in the best interest of the driver and the team. Sometimes there is a certain moment when you need to calm things down but I meant well.”
“We had a lot of discussions about track limits and whether they were enforced or not. I wanted to make sure we were getting the best out of the package that wasn’t performing, and trying to give it our best shot.” The Austrian has made it clear that his and Hamilton’s radio tussle will not in any way impact his new deal and has further indicated that he came onto the radio only to keep the morale up of the former F1 World Champion.

Lewis Hamilton has performed well in 2023

While there are still some shenanigans regarding Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 contract, one thing that has not gone unnoticed is his brilliant form during the ongoing campaign. Hamilton had a tough time in 2022, but fast-forwarding to this year’s campaign, he has been on it from the very first race of the season.
He has done his absolute best to put the W14 through the wringer, and this is one of the main reasons why he is currently ahead of his teammate in the team battle. As things stand, the 38-year-old has amassed 106 points compared to George Russell, who has managed only 72 points so far.
The 2023 Drivers Championship is pretty much out of the question for Lewis Hamilton because of Max Verstappen’s dominance at the front. However, he is in a three-way battle for the second position in the Drivers standings with Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez. Considering this fact, the upcoming British GP will be extremely crucial for him.
