In a stunning tribute to their glorious history, McLaren unveiled a mesmerizing chrome livery ahead of the British Grand Prix in collaboration with Google’s web browser, Chrome. While the team desired more chrome, they faced limitations set by the FIA and performance concerns due to weight. Nonetheless, they aimed to retain elements of their iconic papaya identity. This has now sparked a debate among the F1 Twitterati regarding their new livery.

To celebrate their 60th anniversary, McLaren chose the British Grand Prix as the perfect stage for reviving their chrome livery, reminiscent of Lewis Hamiltons golden era. The team had previously sported a chrome/silver design in early 2015 before transitioning to black later that year.

In 2017, McLaren embraced the vibrant papaya hue, which has become its signature color. The new Chrome livery cleverly pays homage to their sponsor, Google, with a nod to its browser, Chrome. Prior to the British Grand Prix, McLaren generated excitement by changing their profile picture to a chrome-themed logo and releasing a captivating short film featuring Lando Norris‘ discovery.

With heightened anticipation, McLaren arrived in Austria with significant upgrades ahead of schedule, delivering a strong performance. Lando Norris achieved a commendable fourth-place finish, marking the team’s best result of the season. Looking ahead to Silverstone, McLaren plans to introduce further upgrades to their second car, thrilling driver Oscar Piastri after facing challenges in Austria.

However, the new chrome livery has garnered mixed reactions from Tweetizens. Amidst the hype generated by the papaya-clad team, some fans expressed disappointment at the limited presence of chrome, as the dominant papaya color remained intact. This special livery follows their earlier tribute at the Monaco GP, where McLaren paid homage to their Triple Crown achievements.

Twitter users wasted no time in voicing their opinions, flooding the platform with a range of reactions. While the majority expressed discontent, others celebrated the nostalgia and applauded McLaren’s efforts to honor their rich racing heritage. Many have mocked the hint of orange that the car still had and wanted them to replace it with the nostalgic red colour.
