“Understeer for me is different,” Pierre Gasly shares some intriguing details as he prepares for his first season as an Alpine driver
Pierre Gasly
Pierre Gasly was brought into Formula 1 by the folks at Red Bull. After portraying some incredible performances in the Torro Rosso, the Frenchman was promoted to the main team where he raced alongside Max Verstappen in 2019. However, his stint with the ‘A’ team only lasted half a season as he was demoted back to Torro Rosso due to his poor performances. A lot has changed since then.
After coming back to Torro Rosso (Now branded as AlphaTauri) Pierre Gasly driver rose back to the top of his game as he finally seemed to have found his mojo. Nevertheless, he never got the call back up to join the main team. This meant that Gasly was stuck in once place and his chances of moving to another team seemed very slim. However, never say never in Formula 1.
With Fernando Alonso departing from Alpine, a spot was up for grabs for the Frenchman which he managed to take and finally became an Alpine driver. Pierre Gasly has said that he wants to become familiar with the way the team works as fast as possible. On the other hand, when it comes to his expectations, he isn’t keeping any. Pierre was also of the opinion that his feedback would be different than many drivers on the grid.
Pierre Gasly doesn’t have high expectations for the first few races with Alpine
The Frenchman refrains from holding high expectations at the start of the season. During an interview with PlanetF1.com , here is what he said. You don’t know the race team, the technical team, it always takes time to get up to speed. Maybe sometimes you jump in the car, it all feels very natural, sometimes it doesn’t, it needs a bit of fine-tuning on the way you approach your racing.”
When it comes to driver feedback, it is normal for both the drivers in the team to have different feedback. However, it helps both the parties if both the drivers move in the same direction when it comes to car development. That has hardly been the case with Pierre. “Understeer for Fernando, understeer for Esteban, understeer for Max, understeer for me is different, it doesn’t require the same thing,” he said.
Pierre Gasly will be partnering fellow Frenchman Esteban Ocon as they charge on into 2023 racing for a French team (Alpine). The situation just seems magical from the eyes of any French resident. However, it is equally important for the drivers to cooperate and move the team in the right direction if they want to be successful in their upcoming campaign.
